TO EDUCATE, ADVOCATE AND INSPIRE THE MOVEMENT IN SPORTSWEAR & PE KIT POLICIES TO PUT CHOICE, COMFORT AND INCLUSION FIRST.

What we do

Inclusive Sportswear CIC is a non-profit community-interest company, working to create more inclusive sport and physical activity clothing and uniform policies for schools, clubs, sport organisations and brands.

We identify the diverse range of issues related to impractical, outdated sports clothing policies and practices. Research proves it is one of the most underrated causes of low participation, particularly for girls and minority-groups.

In response, we have developed the first sports clothing standard based-on choice and inclusion: The Inclusive Sportswear Charter.

To empower action, we have collaborated with leading experts to create The Inclusive Sportswear Guidance, free to access.

Our Mission

Educate, advocate, and inspire systemically inclusive sportswear policy and practice for schools, clubs, brands, and sport national governing bodies.
Eliminate compulsory, sexualised, and impractical gender-based kit policies in schools, promoting comfort and confidence for all.
Simplify the adoption of inclusive sportswear policies by providing open access to online resources.

Why we care about sports kit inclusion

Sport kit discomfort and rigid non-inclusive sportswear policies are the most underrated causes of drop-outs in sport and physical activity.*

The Inclusive sportswear charter

The rigorously inclusive sportswear policy and practice standard.
The Inclusive Sportswear Charter is the first and only inclusion-based kit standard for policy and practice to empower schools, clubs, National Governing Bodies, and brands to design and implement inclusive sports kit policies.

our founder

TESS HOWARD

FOUNDER & DIRECTOR

Our Founder is Team GB Olympian, Tess Howard. Over the last few years, Tess has led the successful campaign for international hockey to change their clothing regulations to allow choice of shorts and skorts in the same team - where previously only skorts could be worn. This hard-fought change is the culmination of her academic paper on the effects of gendered sports uniforms and her own discomfort as an elite athlete wearing sexualised gendered kit.

Tess is determined the movement not stop at hockey or just in the UK, and is on a mission to educate, advocate and inspire a movement in inclusive sports kit policies based on choice and comfort.
